Description

This Apple Cinnamon French Toast Casserole is a cozy breakfast favorite made with brioche or French bread, spiced apples, and a rich custard. Perfect for holidays, brunch, or weekend mornings. Make-ahead friendly and feeds a crowd. Keywords: apple cinnamon french toast casserole, breakfast casserole, apple breakfast bake.

Ingredients

8 cups French bread or brioche, cubed

2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

3 tablespoons butter, diced

1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

1. Cube the bread and set it aside to dry slightly if it’s not day-old. Peel and dice the apples.

2. Toss apples with brown sugar and cinnamon until well coated.

3. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to create the custard.

4. Grease a 9×13 baking dish with butter. Layer half the bread and half the apples, then repeat.

5. Pour the custard evenly over the top, gently pressing down to help the bread absorb the liquid.

6. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or overnight for best results.

7. Preheat oven to 350°F. Remove casserole from the fridge while the oven heats.

8. Dot the top with butter cubes and sprinkle with a mix of sugar and cinnamon.

9. Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes until golden and set in the center.

10. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving warm with maple syrup or toppings of choice.

Notes

This recipe can be made the night before and baked fresh in the morning.

Use day-old bread for better texture and structure.

Leftovers can be frozen and reheated for quick breakfasts.
