Ingredients

1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp onion powder

1 tbsp smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

1 lb bacon, diced

2 apples, cored and chopped

1 onion, chopped

4 sprigs of fresh thyme

4 sprigs of fresh rosemary

1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C). Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  2. Prepare the seasoning by mixing softened butter, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Rub the butter mixture generously under the turkey’s skin and over the exterior.
  4. Stuff the turkey with chopped apples, onions, thyme, and rosemary.
  5. Add diced bacon across the turkey’s top, ensuring an even layer.
  6. Place the turkey on a roasting rack inside a large roasting pan. Pour chicken broth into the pan for added moisture.
  7. Cover loosely with foil and roast for 3 to 3 ½ hours, basting every hour.
  8. Remove the foil during the final 30 minutes to crisp the bacon and brown the skin.
  9. Check the internal temperature in the thickest part of the breast; it should read 165°F (74°C).
  10. Rest the turkey for 20-30 minutes before carving to ensure maximum juiciness.
