Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup buttermilk, room temperature

4 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Butter Sauce:

3/4 cup sugar

1/3 cup butter

3 tablespoons water

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C) and generously grease and flour a Bundt pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared Bundt pan and bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. While the cake is baking, make the butter sauce by combining sugar, butter, and water in a saucepan. Heat over medium until the butter melts and sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  8. Once the cake is out of the oven, poke holes all over with a skewer and slowly pour the warm sauce over the cake while still in the pan.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan to absorb the sauce fully before inverting onto a serving plate.
