A gluten-free dessert that’s always a crowd favorite.
Ingredients
1 cup butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans or almonds
Instructions
1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat and set aside. Prepare chocolate chips and nuts so they’re ready to go.
2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the sugar and continue stirring constantly as the mixture begins to boil and change color.
3. Cook the mixture until it reaches a deep golden amber color, about 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
4. Immediately pour the hot toffee onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly.
5. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let them sit for 1 to 2 minutes until melted. Spread the chocolate into an even layer.
6. Top with chopped nuts and lightly press them into the chocolate layer.
7. Allow the toffee to cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate until set. Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.
Notes
This toffee sets quickly, so have all toppings ready before you begin cooking.
You can substitute pecans with almonds or walnuts based on preference.
For extra depth, sprinkle flaky sea salt over the chocolate before it sets.
