Ingredients

1 lb (450g) cheese tortellini (fresh or frozen)

1 lb (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 cup ricotta cheese (optional)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef (or sausage) until browned. Drain excess grease, then add onion and garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. Cook the Tortellini: Boil salted water and cook the tortellini for 1-2 minutes less than the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Assemble the Dish: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Add the tortellini and toss gently. If using ricotta, spoon dollops over the pasta. Cover with the remaining meat sauce.
  4. Add the Cheese: Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the top. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Serve & Enjoy: Let the baked tortellini cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve warm.
