Description
This chocolate pudding recipe is rich, creamy, and easy to make at home. Made with real cocoa powder and dark chocolate, it’s a silky stovetop dessert perfect for holidays or everyday indulgence. Ideal for gluten-free diets and customizable with toppings like whipped cream, berries, or sea salt. A must-try classic pudding dessert!
Ingredients
2 ¾ cups whole milk
½ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tablespoons cornstarch
¼ teaspoon salt
3 ounces chopped dark chocolate
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan off the heat, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.
2. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to create a smooth mixture.
3. Place the pan over medium heat and cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture begins to bubble and thicken to a pudding-like texture (about 5 to 10 minutes).
4. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped chocolate, vanilla extract, and butter. Whisk until everything is melted and smooth.
5. Pour pudding into individual serving cups or one large bowl. Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming.
6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
This pudding thickens as it cools, so don’t overcook it on the stove.
For extra richness, use half-and-half instead of part of the milk.
Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.
