Description
These crispy cheesy potato bites are the ultimate party appetizer, with fluffy mashed potatoes, sharp cheddar cheese, and a crunchy panko coating. Easy to make, kid-friendly, and perfect for dipping, they’re a must-have snack or side dish.
Ingredients
500 g potatoes
150 g shredded cheddar cheese
1 large egg
100 g all-purpose flour
100 g panko breadcrumbs
salt to taste
pepper to taste
vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1. Peel, chop, and boil the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender. Drain well and mash until smooth.
2. While the potatoes are still warm, stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and combined.
3. Let the mixture cool slightly, then shape into small bite-sized balls or patties.
4. Set up three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten egg, and one with panko breadcrumbs. Dredge each bite in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs, ensuring full coverage.
5. Place the coated bites on a baking sheet and chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
6. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F. Fry the bites in batches until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels before serving.
Notes
These bites can be frozen before frying for make-ahead convenience.
For extra flavor, add chopped herbs or spices to the potato mixture.
Serve immediately for the crispiest texture.
