Ingredients
1 ½ pounds cube steak
2 medium yellow onions, sliced
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
1. Pat cube steaks dry with paper towel and season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
2. Dredge steaks in flour, shaking off excess.
3. Heat butter and oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear steaks for 3 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
4. In same skillet, add onions and cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes until caramelized.
5. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of flour over onions, stir well.
6. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring constantly to make a smooth gravy.
7. Add Worcestershire sauce, stir and bring to a simmer.
8. Return steaks to skillet, cover and simmer on low for 25–30 minutes until tender.
9. Serve hot with your choice of mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Notes
Use low-sodium beef broth if you prefer less salt.
Add mushrooms or fresh herbs like thyme for an extra flavor boost.
For thicker gravy, let it simmer uncovered for the last 5 minutes.
