Description

This Decadent Caramel Cake is a moist, buttery dessert layered with homemade caramel glaze that sets into a rich, toffee-like finish. Perfect for holidays or special occasions, this caramel cake recipe is easy to make and packed with indulgent flavor. Keywords: caramel cake, decadent caramel cake, homemade caramel glaze, moist caramel dessert, Southern caramel cake.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)

1 3/4 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup whole milk

1 1/2 cups brown sugar

3/4 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.

4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.

5. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.

6. Divide the batter evenly between pans and smooth the tops.

7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in pans, then transfer to wire racks.

8. For the glaze, combine brown sugar, butter, and cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until smooth and slightly thickened.

9. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Let cool for 5 minutes.

10. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and pour one-third of the glaze on top. Add second layer and pour remaining glaze over top and sides.

11. Let set at room temperature for 20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

This cake is best served slightly warm for a gooey texture.

You can make the caramel glaze a day ahead and gently reheat before pouring.

Add a pinch of sea salt to the glaze for a salted caramel twist.
