Description

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup hot coffee or hot water


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract, then mix until smooth.

4. Slowly pour in the hot coffee or hot water and stir until the batter is fully combined.

5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.

6. Bake for 32 to 38 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then cool completely before serving or frosting.

Notes

Use room temperature eggs and buttermilk for a smoother batter and more even bake.

Hot coffee gives the chocolate flavor more depth, but hot water works well too.

Do not overbake the cake or it may lose some of its soft, moist texture.
