Ingredients

1 box yellow cake mix

3 large eggs

1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup melted butter

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine yellow cake mix, eggs, sour cream, and vegetable oil. Beat until smooth and well combined.

3. Pour the cake batter evenly into the greased baking dish and set aside.

4. In a separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt.

5. Add melted butter to the dry topping mixture and stir with a fork until coarse crumbs form. Use your hands to form larger crumble pieces if needed.

6. Sprinkle half the crumb mixture over the cake batter and gently swirl with a knife to create a cinnamon ribbon.

7. Add the remaining crumb topping evenly over the top.

8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9. Let the cake cool for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

A swirl of crumb topping in the middle helps give the cake that iconic layered look and flavor.

Letting the cake cool before cutting helps the topping set and slice cleanly.

Using room-temperature eggs and sour cream helps the batter mix more evenly.
