Description

Ingredients

12 hot dogs

1 cup cornmeal

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk

1 large egg

Vegetable oil for frying

Toothpicks or small skewers


Instructions

1. Cut hot dogs into 1.5-inch pieces and insert a toothpick or small skewer into each piece. Set aside.

2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

3. Add in milk and egg. Mix until a thick batter forms. Let rest for a few minutes.

4. Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F.

5. Dip each hot dog piece into the batter, coating it completely.

6. Carefully place coated bites into the hot oil. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.

7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
