Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
4 oz cream cheese, softened
3 tbsp granulated sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tsp espresso powder
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Roll out puff pastry and cut into rectangles or leave whole for a braid.
3. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, granulated sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth.
4. Spread cream cheese filling down the center of the puff pastry, leaving space at the edges.
5. In a skillet, cook apple slices with brown sugar, cinnamon, and espresso powder over medium heat until tender. Let cool slightly.
6. Spoon apple mixture over the cream cheese layer.
7. If using the braid method, cut slits in the pastry edges and fold over alternately.
8. Brush edges with beaten egg for a golden crust.
9. Bake for 18–22 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
10. Cool slightly before slicing and optionally dust with powdered sugar.
Notes
Let the puff pastry thaw fully for easy handling.
Use tart apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith for best flavor.
Adjust the espresso amount for a more or less intense flavor.
