Description

French Onion Stuffed Chicken is a rich and comforting dinner featuring juicy chicken breasts filled with caramelized onions and melted Gruyère cheese. This easy yet elegant recipe brings together classic French onion flavors with a hearty, protein-packed twist, perfect for weeknight meals or special occasions.

Ingredients

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

2 large yellow onions thinly sliced

1 cup beef broth

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons butter

2 cloves garlic minced

1 teaspoon fresh thyme

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook slowly for 25 to 30 minutes until caramelized and golden. Stir occasionally.

2. Add garlic and thyme, then pour in beef broth. Let it simmer for a few minutes until slightly reduced. Remove from heat.

3. Cut a pocket into each chicken breast without slicing through. Season inside and outside with salt and pepper.

4. Stuff each chicken breast with caramelized onions and shredded Gruyère cheese. Secure with toothpicks.

5. In the same skillet, sear the chicken on both sides until golden brown.

6. Transfer to a preheated oven at 375°F and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until fully cooked.

7. Remove toothpicks, serve warm, and spoon pan juices over the top.

Notes

Make sure to cook the onions slowly to develop deep flavor and sweetness.

Use toothpicks firmly to prevent the filling from spilling while cooking.

Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving to keep it juicy.
