Description
This fried apples recipe is a quick and comforting Southern-style side dish made with fresh apples, butter, brown sugar, and warm spices. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or dinner pairings, these skillet-cooked apples deliver sweet, spiced flavor with just a few simple ingredients.
Ingredients
3 large apples
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Peel, core, and slice the apples into even wedges.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter until it begins to foam slightly.
3. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and salt. Let it bubble into a syrup.
4. Add the apple slices and toss to coat in the syrup. Cover and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5. Uncover, stir in the vanilla and lemon juice, then cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until the syrup thickens and apples are glazed.
6. Serve warm, or cool and refrigerate for later use.
Notes
Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best results.
Donโt overcook the apples if you want them to keep their shape.
You can freeze leftovers for up to 2 months.
