Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
2. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 3–4 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out thawed puff pastry and cut into rectangles or circles.
6. Spoon a small amount of beef mixture onto one side of each piece. Fold over and press edges with a fork to seal.
7. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush tops with beaten egg.
8. Bake for 18–22 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
9. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
This recipe makes about 8 hand pies.
Let the filling cool before assembling to avoid soggy dough.
Use a fork to crimp the edges well so the filling stays sealed during baking.
