Description

This Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy recipe is the ultimate comfort food classic. Juicy beef patties are simmered in a rich onion gravy and served over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice. It’s a hearty and satisfying dinner made with simple pantry ingredients. Perfect for family dinners or weekly meal prep. Keywords: hamburger steaks, onion gravy, comfort food, ground beef recipes, easy weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 large onion, sliced

2 cups beef broth

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons oil or butter

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix just until combined and form into oval patties.

2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil or butter. Brown the patties for 3–4 minutes on each side. Remove and set aside.

3. In the same skillet, add more oil or butter if needed. Add sliced onions and cook over medium heat until golden and softened, about 10 minutes.

4. Sprinkle flour over onions, stir to coat, and cook for 1–2 minutes.

5. Slowly pour in beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer.

6. Return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes until the gravy thickens and the patties are cooked through.

7. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles, spooning plenty of gravy over the top.

Notes

This recipe makes 4 to 6 servings depending on portion size.

Use 80/20 ground beef for juicy, flavorful patties.

Reheat with a splash of broth to loosen up leftover gravy.
