Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1 pound Italian sausage

1 medium yellow onion, chopped

3 garlic cloves, minced

28 ounces crushed tomatoes

6 ounces tomato paste

15 ounces tomato sauce

2 teaspoons sugar

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

15 ounces ricotta cheese

1 large egg

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

12 lasagna noodles, cooked or oven-ready

Instructions

1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until browned. Drain fat.

2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.

3. In a medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and chopped parsley until smooth.

4. If using regular noodles, cook according to package directions and drain.

5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Repeat layers, ending with sauce and cheese on top.

6. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake 20 minutes more until bubbly and golden.

7. Let sit for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Lasagna can be made a day ahead and refrigerated before baking.

Let the lasagna rest before cutting to hold its shape.

Add a layer of spinach or mushrooms for a veggie boost.
