Ingredients
1 block extra-firm tofu
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying
2 tablespoons chopped green onions
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Instructions
1. Drain and press the tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into bite-sized cubes.
2. Toss tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
3. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu and fry on all sides until golden brown and crispy. Alternatively, bake at 400°F for 25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
4. In a separate pan, combine soy sauce, minced garlic, maple syrup or honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Simmer over medium heat until sauce thickens and becomes sticky.
5. Add the crispy tofu to the sauce and toss to coat each piece evenly.
6. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
Tofu must be pressed thoroughly for best texture.
The sauce thickens quickly—keep stirring to avoid burning.
You can double the sauce if serving over rice or noodles.
