Ingredients
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
2 large eggs
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup raisins (optional)
½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or a bundt pan.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
3. In another bowl, beat together butter and brown sugar until creamy. Add eggs one at a time.
4. Stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract until combined.
5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in raisins or nuts if using.
6. Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top.
7. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
9. Serve plain or topped with powdered sugar, whipped cream, or glaze.
