Description

This quick homemade teriyaki sauce is rich, savory, and perfectly balanced with sweet and tangy notes. Made in under 10 minutes, it’s the perfect glaze or dipping sauce for chicken, veggies, noodles, and more. A flavorful pantry-staple recipe with soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger.

Ingredients

1/2 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons honey

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

2 teaspoons cornstarch

1/4 cup cold water

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1/2 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

Instructions

1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.

2. In a separate bowl, whisk together cornstarch and cold water until smooth.

3. Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan while stirring constantly.

4. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer until thickened, about 3 minutes.

5. Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil if using.

6. Let the sauce cool slightly before using or storing in a jar.

Notes

This recipe yields about 1 cup of sauce.

You can double the batch and store it for up to a week in the fridge.

Add red pepper flakes for a spicy version or pineapple juice for extra tang.
