Ingredients

6 pounds apples

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt


Instructions

1. Wash, core, and slice the apples. Peeling is optional.

2. Place the apple slices into the slow cooker.

3. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until evenly coated.

4. Cover and cook on low for 10 hours, stirring occasionally.

5. Once apples have broken down, use an immersion blender to blend until smooth.

6. If the mixture is too runny, cook uncovered for 1 to 2 more hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

7. Let cool and transfer to airtight jars.

8. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

Let the apple butter cool completely before sealing in jars.

You can use a combination of apple varieties for deeper flavor.

If you donโ€™t have an immersion blender, a regular blender works just fine in batches.
