Description
This smoked gouda apple grilled cheese is the perfect cozy lunch idea, combining smoky cheese, tart apples, and crispy sourdough. A sweet and savory grilled cheese recipe made in under 15 minutes that’s ideal for fall comfort food or a quick weeknight bite.
Ingredients
2 slices sourdough bread
2 teaspoons butter
2 slices smoked gouda cheese
1/2 medium Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions
1. Slice the apple thinly and prepare your cheese (grate or slice).
2. Butter the outside of both slices of sourdough. Spread Dijon mustard on the inside, if using.
3. Layer the smoked gouda and apple slices between the bread.
4. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook the sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, until golden and the cheese melts.
5. Let rest for a minute before slicing. Serve warm.
Notes
Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best contrast.
Smoked gouda melts beautifully and adds savory depth—don’t substitute with plain gouda unless needed.
For extra crispiness, press the sandwich slightly with a spatula while grilling.
