Description

This Southern Sweet Potato Pie recipe is a classic soul food dessert, made with creamy roasted sweet potatoes, warm spices, and a flaky crust. It’s the perfect holiday pie recipe for Thanksgiving or any Southern-inspired meal. Easy to make and incredibly comforting, this homemade sweet potato pie brings nostalgic flavor in every slice.

Ingredients

2 medium sweet potatoes (roasted and mashed)

0.5 cup granulated sugar

0.5 cup light brown sugar

0.5 cup unsalted butter (melted)

2 large eggs

0.5 cup evaporated milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 9-inch unbaked pie crust

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F and roast whole sweet potatoes for 45-50 minutes until soft. Let cool, peel, and mash.

2. Lower oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted butter, eggs, evaporated milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix until smooth.

3. Pour filling into the unbaked pie crust and smooth the top.

4. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the center is just set and a knife comes out mostly clean.

5. Allow the pie to cool completely on a wire rack.

6. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing for the best texture.

7. Serve plain or with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, or candied pecans if desired.

Notes

Use roasted sweet potatoes for the richest flavor.

Let pie cool fully before slicing to avoid a runny center.

Chill overnight for easy make-ahead dessert.
