Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 medium carrot, finely chopped
1 celery stalk, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 cup beef broth
1 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and celery and cook until soft and fragrant.
2. Add garlic and cook briefly until aromatic.
3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
4. Stir in tomato paste and cook for a few minutes until slightly darkened.
5. Add crushed tomatoes, beef broth, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir well.
6. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
7. Stir in milk and continue simmering for another 15 minutes until rich and smooth.
8. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed before serving.
Notes
This sauce tastes even better the next day as the flavors deepen.
For extra richness, simmer the sauce longer on very low heat.
