Description
Christmas Freezer Jam is a sweet, festive homemade jam made with strawberries, cranberries, orange zest, and pectin for a bright holiday flavor. This easy freezer jam recipe is perfect for Christmas breakfast, edible gifts, and make-ahead holiday spreads.
Ingredients
3 cups crushed strawberries
1 cup finely chopped fresh cranberries
5 cups granulated sugar
1 package powdered fruit pectin
1 cup water
1 tablespoon orange zest
2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
Instructions
1. Wash, dry, hull, and crush the strawberries until they are juicy but still slightly textured. Finely chop the cranberries.
2. In a large bowl, combine the crushed strawberries, chopped cranberries, sugar, orange zest, and orange juice. Stir well and let the mixture sit for 10 minutes.
3. In a small saucepan, stir together the powdered fruit pectin and water.
4. Bring the pectin mixture to a full boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly.
5. Boil for 1 minute, then remove the saucepan from the heat.
6. Pour the hot pectin mixture into the fruit mixture and stir for about 3 minutes, until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
7. Spoon the jam into clean freezer-safe jars or containers, leaving 1/2 inch of headspace at the top.
8. Let the jam stand at room temperature for 24 hours until set.
9. Store one jar in the refrigerator and freeze the rest for later use.
Notes
Use ripe strawberries for the best natural sweetness and color.
Chop the cranberries finely so they blend smoothly into the jam.
Leave enough headspace in each container because the jam expands slightly in the freezer.
