Description
Crockpot Dr Pepper Chicken is a sweet, smoky, and tender slow cooker chicken recipe made with juicy shredded chicken, barbecue sauce, and Dr Pepper for an easy family dinner that is perfect for sandwiches, meal prep, and busy weeknights.
Ingredients
2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 can (12 ounces) Dr Pepper
1 cup barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
6 sandwich buns
Instructions
1. Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of the crockpot in an even layer.
2. In a medium bowl, stir together the Dr Pepper, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
3. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken, making sure the pieces are well coated.
4. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and easy to shred.
5. Remove the chicken from the crockpot and shred it with two forks.
6. Return the shredded chicken to the crockpot and stir it into the sauce.
7. Let the chicken sit on warm for 10 to 15 minutes so it can soak up more flavor.
8. Serve warm on sandwich buns or with your favorite side dishes.
Notes
Use your favorite barbecue sauce because it shapes the final flavor of the dish.
Toast the buns before serving so they hold up better with the juicy chicken.
For a thicker sauce, leave the lid off for the last 15 to 20 minutes on warm and stir once or twice.
