Ingredients
6 cups sliced apples
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated. Spread them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
3. In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, and brown sugar. Pour in the melted butter and mix until crumbly and well incorporated.
4. Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple mixture, making sure to cover all the fruit.
5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling.
6. Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
7. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
This recipe works best with a mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
You can double the topping if you prefer an extra thick and crunchy layer.
Leftovers can be reheated in the oven to maintain the crisp topping.
